After almost three months of its launch, the Sony Xperia 1 III has managed to pull some attention to itself but for a very wrong reason. It was reported last week that the device will receive only one major OS upgrade, but fortunately, it didn’t take long for Sony to clear the air.
Sony reportedly confirmed to Droid-Life and GSMArena that it has planned to treat the Xperia 1 III with two years of OS upgrades. In a statement provided to the two publications, Sony denies the previous report that claimed only one time Android OS update.
It is not correct that Xperia 1 III will have only one time Android OS update. We aim to support Xperia 1 III with the latest Android updates for two years after its launch and we expect to have Android OS updates more than once during that period.
When the news broke by DroidApp, it was disheartening and daunting at the same time to note that a device with a strong caliber and a hefty price tag will receive only one Android OS upgrade. It is good to note that Sony came up itself and gave a much-needed clarification.
Well, Sony hasn’t given any timeline on these two OS upgrades. But, we expect it to push the incoming Android 12 update soon after the software's stable release, if not immediately.
For your information, the Sony Xperia 1 III launched with Android 11 out-of-the-box. And, if there are two OS upgrades written in its fate, then we believe, it might get the Android 12 first. But, exactly when is the question.
