TikTok was one of the many apps that got banned by the government of India last year in June on security grounds. Since then we have seen many new apps taking over and filling the gap left by TikTok. Many existing market players like YouTube also tried their hands on it and integrated the same experience in their apps in order to get the slice of the market that was once enjoyed by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company.
But how can an app that once ruled as a disruptor would leave that chunk of the pie so easily? Tons of reports citing sources have claimed on the app's revival already and it appears all those reports are finally turning true.
If a recently filed trademark application is anything to go by, we would see TikTok making a comeback in India as “TickTock.” As spotted first by the tipster Mukul Sharma on Twitter, ByteDance has filed a trademark application for TikTok with the title “TickTock.” This is pretty suggestive that the app might reappear in India with a new name.
Well, while we have a good reason to put our faith in this theory, we would like to keep it aside for now until something more substantial takes over. However, a filed trademark poses a big indication that whatever we are postulating is true.
It is worth noting that many apps which got banned last year have already made a comeback in the country or are about to. Earlier this month, PUBG Mobile, came back to India as Battlegrounds Mobile India. China’s e-commerce platform Shein is also set to make a comeback to the country through Amazon’s Prime Day sale next week.
