Backup by Google One is now the default backup for Android

22 July 2021 0

Google is rolling out a new update for Android devices that brings the new Backup by Google One support. It will replace the existing default backup service on devices. The newest offering is a unified place for all Android device backup needs and is also said to be vast than the previous one.

The currently available backup service includes data like app data, SMS messages, call history, contacts, and device preferences. The last part covers things like Wi-Fi networks and passwords, wallpapers, display settings (brightness and sleep), language and input settings, and date/time. With the new offering, the backup will also include photos, videos, and MMS messages.

The best part is that backup management settings will also be available directly through the device settings page. Previously, users had to manage backups by visiting a dedicated app or website. The new experience is a lot more convenient and much faster to execute. Another benefit is that Backup by Google One is the only backup that users will have to take care of instead of juggling through different backup services for different data.

The rollout for this new backup service has already begun. It has even started to show up for some Pixel users as they are known to get the update first. All other Android users should receive the update in the near future.
