OnwardMobility, the new licensee for BlackBerry smartphones has shared an update on the development of BlackBerry's 5G phone. Well, the company hasn’t shared any major details, nor has it revealed the launch date as yet. But, it is just a small acknowledgment of what it intends to do.
Last year in August, OnwardMobility made agreements with BlackBerry to engineer, develop and bring a 5G-enabled mobile phone in the market. It also promised to bring it somewhere in the first half of 2021. Well, we are already halfway through 2021 and no such device has come out yet. But looks like OnwardMobility thought of sharing a smaller update on the development so to keep us in the loop and also tells that the plans it made last year are still intact.
OnwardMobility has launched a ‘Pre-Commitment Program,’ which is essentially an email newsletter for you to receive updates on the phone. The form that you need to fill in to receive a newsletter asks a couple of things other than just your credentials. The form asks people which mobile networks they would like to use the phone with. Also, how many phones they are going to buy. It appears the latter question is in reference to the corporate deployments.
This goes in sync with what John Chen, Executive Chairman, and CEO at Blackberry said last year that the phone will have enterprise and government-level security, indicating the phone might cater to the needs of enterprises and business clients only. However, the statement isn't sufficient to come to a conclusion.
The description above the form also mentions that you can be the early bird and pre-order the device, and hence become one of the firsts to receive the device at launch.
However, no revised launch timeframe for the first BlackBerry 5G phone is shared. Well, if you’re interested to receive availability updates before the general public then follow the source link and apply for the form.
