MediaTek has officially unveiled a new chipset named Kompanio 1300T. The processor is primarily aimed at Android tablets but can also be used on ARM-powered notebooks like Chromebooks. One of the major differences between this new and other Kompanio chipsets is full support for 5G network bands.
The Kompanio 1300T is an octa-core processor based on TSMC's 6nm manufacturing process. It features Cortex-A78 high-performance and Cortex-A55 power efficiency cores. There is a nine-core ARM Mali-G77 MC9 GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks like gaming applications. For 5G connectivity, it has an integrated 5G modem with support for a complete set of 5G sub-6GHz bands, 5G-2CA as well as Dual 5G SIM, in addition to supporting 5G Elevator Mode & 5G HSR Mode enhancements.
The processor can support dual-displays with Full HD resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, multi-scene HDR10+, and a chip-level eye protection engine for filtering the blue light. It is compatible with multi-camera designs featuring up to 108-megapixel sensors, 4K video recording at 60fps, and 4K HDR video recording.
As per the announcement, Kompany 1300T-powered tablets will start appearing in the market from the third quarter of 2021. It has not revealed names of OEM partners but we will know about them as and when devices will launch.
