Twitter is now the newest social media platform that wants to integrate online shopping capabilities. It has announced the Shop Module feature as part of a pilot release. The new feature is currently available only for iOS users in the United States. In other words, the team is simply testing waters with online shopping integration now.
Shop Module is all about giving Twitter users an opportunity to purchase items directly from the app without having to exit. Twitter has partnered with a few brands for the initial rollout. All eligible businesses will have a carousel right below the interface where you can see the number of followers and the following count. Users will be able to browse through listed products by swiping left and right.
The listing will show a product image, product name, and product category. Tapping on a particular product will open the product page through the in-app browser. It will then be up to the user whether they want to make the purchase. It is important to note that businesses can choose to enable or disable the Shop Module as per their preferences.

"We eventually stepped back from our shopping pursuits to focus on other areas. Now, as you heard from us earlier this year, we’re back and putting more energy into testing out the potential for shopping on Twitter. As one of our first steps forward, today, we’re launching a pilot of the Shop Module -- a feature that allows us to explore how shoppable profiles can create a pathway from talking about and discovering products on Twitter to actually purchasing them."
