After a long wait, Apple has finally added support for local payment options on the Indian App Store. It means Indian users can now use UPI, RuPay cards, and net banking for making App Store payments. These newly added options are available alongside the traditionally used method of debit and credit cards.
The process for adding these new payment methods is exactly the same. You can do that by visiting Settings -> Apple ID -> Payment & Shipping -> Add Payment Method. The second way is to visit the App Store and tap on your profile icon followed by the Apple ID option. From here, tap the Manage Payments option to add your preferred method.
For the uninitiated, here is what each of these new payment methods means:
- UPI: It is one of the fastest ways of making payment where users only need to remember their UPI IDs instead of banking details
- RuPay cards: It is an Indian payment system similar to Visa and MasterCard. It is primarily used by government banks while issuing credit and debit cards
- Net Banking: It is the method where one uses an online banking system to make payments
These new payment options can be used for purchasing anything from the App Store, even for iTunes payments. One can also use them for adding funds to the Apple account. They have started to appear for a lot of users but if you are not seeing them, we would suggest you be patient. The change should reflect on your device anytime soon.
