Instagram announces Limits, Hidden Words to prevent online abuse

11 August 2021 0

In the past year or so, Instagram has been active in rolling out features and app settings that will help users browse the popular social media app with peace of mind. The newest features coming from the platform are called Limits and Hidden Words. These are aimed at reducing the online abuse many users face, especially celebrities and online influencers.

The first feature i.e. Limits is all about putting a limit on the number of unwanted comments and DMs that a user is receiving. It is particularly meant for the times when there is a sudden surge of comments and messages from trollers and haters. Once enabled from the app's privacy settings, it will automatically prevent comments from people who either do not follow you or followed you recently. It also saves the time of the user where they would have to limit such users manually.

Next up, Instagram says it will start showing stronger warnings to abuse comment posters right from the beginning. It used to offer nominal warnings and move to stronger ones only after the second or third attempt. It will warn them about Instagram guidelines and if they still choose to post, the comment may get removed or hidden from others. If the user repeats such comments, then his account may also get deleted.

Hidden Words is the last feature that is getting rolled out today. It will allow users to filter abusive words, phrases, and emojis that they would not like to read. It is meant for DM requests so that you do not have to go through messages that are nothing but an attempt to abuse them.
