Sony seems to have quietly released a new PlayStation 5 Digital Edition model. An Australian publication Press-Start has shared a report talking about spotting the new variant. This new variant comes with at least a couple of improvements over the originally released model. It is said to be lighter than before and now does not require a screwdriver either.
The report claims that the new PlayStation 5 version bears the model number CFI-1102A. This is different from the CFI-1000 model number assigned to the originally debuted version. Since Sony is yet to make an official statement, it is hard to say if Australia is the only country to have received the new stock.
The new PlayStation 5 model is said to be approximately 300 grams lighter than the previous one. It is unknown what changes have been made to the unit to bring the weight down. While the console still weighs at least 3.5kg in total, any reduction in the weight is a welcome move. The second major difference is that the new variant comes with a new screw that can be adjusted using hands. It means one does need to have a screwdriver around them anymore.
Even though Sony is now adding a new variant to the lineup, it is the stock issues that have left many gamers disappointed. It has been almost impossible for people to get their hands on the console. It was recently reported that supply shortages will continue to last even in 2022.
