One UI 3.1.1 finally available for older Galaxy Fold foldables

31 August 2021 0

Samsung has finally pushed the One UI 3.1.1 software update for old-generation foldable devices. This new custom Android skin version is what you get with the current-gen Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. It is now being expanded to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Fold.

One UI 3.1.1 is an incremental upgrade but is packed with features meant to improve the user experience. It brings Drag & Split feature that makes it easier to enter the split-screen mode. A user simply needs to click on the link and drag it to the edge of the display. This will open the selected link in a new window so that it can be seen at the same time. This new feature works with many apps including the likes of Samsung Internet, Samsung Notes, My Files, Messages, MS Office, OneNote, and OneDrive.

The next new feature is the Multi-Active Window that lets you open three different apps simultaneously. You can choose your preferred layout for opening the apps which will be used every time. Samsung says that the new update makes it possible to adjust the width and height for each individual app. If there is an app that does not support this mode natively, you will be able to make it work by visiting Settings > Click Advanced Features > Go to Labs > Click on Multi Window for all apps.

The team has further made some changes to ensure that no matter what app you are using, it adjusts to the orientation that you are using the foldable device in. The feature is called Rotate All Apps and as the name suggests, it works with all apps, even if they natively do not support switching to landscape mode. It can also be enabled by visiting the Labs section of the system settings.

The new update supports setting aspect ratios for apps so that you can enjoy photos and videos in full-screen mode. The App Split View and Flex Mode Panel features can now be used even for those apps that do not offer them natively. There is now a Taskbar where users can pin their preferred apps for quickly launching them.

Samsung says that One UI 3.1.1 update is already available for Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and Galaxy Z Flip. If you own a Galaxy Fold, you will have to wait for one more week. It is an OTA update and you will receive a notification as and when the update will become available for your device.
