Update: September 14, 2021

The beta program for One UI 4.0 based on Android 12 has begun. The Galaxy S21 owners can register for the program.

Samsung has announced the One UI 4 based on Android 12 OS introduces new and improved customization and privacy capabilities. The beta program will allow the users with Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra phones to try out the new features ahead of the public release.

Samsung has announced the beta program in select markets only, including the US. The One UI brings redesigned and upgraded widgets. It also brings enhanced privacy and protection functions for a more personalized mobile experience. “One UI 4 also expands on Android 12’s permission options, allowing users to view their permissions history from the last seven days, not just the last 24 hours.”

Samsung has officially confirmed that One UI 4.0 based on Android 12 will roll out in September. It is worth mentioning that the update will start rolling out for the participating Samsung phones in South Korea only. It remains unclear if Samsung will open the beta program for other regions this month or not.

While Samsung is making this apparent now only, the first traces on the rollout arrived a little earlier. A couple of days back, some of Samsung's first-party apps were found to be updated to support the upcoming Android 12 version. For instance, the One Hand Operation+ app was updated to a new version and the changelog on the Galaxy Store mentions Android 12 support. This was enough to acknowledge that the rollout might be just around the corner. Moreover, back in July, Samsung also announced the One UI 4.0 beta was coming soon. So, September it is!

Samsung hasn’t yet disclosed what the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 entails. But, a few past reports have been able to offer some good help in sharing some insights into the same.

It is speculated that the One UI 4.0 will bring big UI changes, including refreshed icons and color schemes. The whole look is expected to resemble stock Android 12 UI design and hence in sync with Google’s new design language called the Material You.

The One UI 4.0 will be rolled out to Galaxy S21 series first and it is believed that the next in the lineup to follow are Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20. And, finally, the release will expand further and include more Samsung smartphones and tablets that the company has launched over the past two years.
