Google releases final Android 12 beta, official release "few weeks" away

09 September 2021 0

Google has released the fifth and final Android 12 beta build for eligible Pixel devices. It means we are now ready for the official release which is said to be a "few weeks" away. This is also the first-ever Android beta release for the Pixel 5a with 5G as it was launched just last month. It means if you have it, you can choose to become a beta tester or simply wait for the stable release.

It should be noted that Android 12 beta testing entered the "Platform Stability" stage with the fourth beta. It simply means that all APIs and app-facing behaviors for the next Android version have been finalized. This is an important factor for developers as they can make changes to their apps while being assured that there will not be significant changes going forward.

The stable Android 12 release, as and when that happens, will more or less be the same as the fifth beta build. The team is looking to gather feedback from testers and devs as only final touches are left to add. Google has recommended developers complete final compatibility testing and publish compatibility updates before the stable version becomes available.

As for end-users who are also beta testers, there is nothing much to talk about. They will receive the latest beta build as an over-the-air update on their respective devices. If it is not available yet, one can also check for it manually by visiting system settings. We will keep you posted on whenever the stable build is released.
