Much is already out in public about the upcoming Xiaomi’s upcoming 11T-series but much is yet to be known. Well, the expected launch of the series is not too far from us but it is always good to have a little more familiarity with upcoming launches. And, this is what Xiaomi is doing as well. Xiaomi has revealed how many major OS upgrades and security updates the 11T-series will receive.
Xiaomi has announced the upcoming 11T and the 11T Pro phones will receive three Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates in their lifecycle. While making this official, Xiaomi didn’t explicitly name other phones nor did it say anything about the old phones. It appears the announcement is tied only to the upcoming 11T series and Xiaomi is creating some hype ahead of the launch to give the phones an edge when they become official.
Albert Shan, Head of Product & Technology, Xiaomi International said,
Xiaomi is committed to providing users with industry-leading hardware and lasting performance. In continuation of this commitment to users, Xiaomi is further extending the life cycle of Xiaomi's smartphones by ensuring three generations of Android operating system updates. This way, users can choose to use their current devices for a longer period, and enjoy the latest features along with it. At the same time, we will also provide users with security updates that ensure their devices operate securely for a longer period of time.
While Xiaomi titled its post solely around the upcoming 11T-series, the description suggests the announcement is applicable to other phones as well. The names of these phones are, however, unknown.
It is interesting to see Xiaomi also mindful of the upgrade cycle of its smartphones. Samsung was the first to announce three years of Android OS upgrades for its phones. OnePlus also followed this suit, announcing how it is going to handle the upgrade cycle, and now Xiaomi is joining.
