WhatsApp is primary a text-based messaging application but audio messages have become one of the commonly used ways to stay in touch. The team is now working on a new audio message transcription feature. The idea is to help users get the message when they do not want to listen to the audio.
As per WABetaInfo, WhatsApp's audio message transcription is under testing on the iOS platform. It will be the first time that there will be native support for the functionality. However, there have been a number of third-party options available. The good thing is that the transcription process will take place locally and nothing will be sent to WhatsApp or Facebook servers.
It is said that WhatsApp will utilize Apple's transcription process for making the feature work. It is said that this will also help Apple's speech recognition technology get better and all processes will take place anonymously. Another important thing is that it will be optional for users what audio message they want to transcribe.
Whenever a user will choose to go ahead with the transcription, WhatsApp will ask for special permission. There will be a new "Transcribe" section that will list all audio messages you have transcribed. There is also support for jumping to a particular timestamp.
