Oppo has announced the ColorOS 12 and also the release timeline. Although Oppo first rolled out an Android 12 beta build for the Find X3 Pro shortly after Android 12 beta dropped, the build did not come with ColorOS 12. Now, it has arrived and also revealed which smartphones will receive it.
Currently, the release is happening in China only. Oppo says it will release the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 update to over 110 different models globally in October. The update schedule is, however, unknown at the moment.
Oppo Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition will be the first device to receive the update. The remaining in the series will receive it in October. The OnePlus 9-series is also expected to receive during the same timeframe.
The older Find X2 series and Reno 6 series will receive their first ColorOS 12 beta builds in November. The Reno 5 series, the OPPO K9, A95, A93, Ace 2 series, and the OnePlus 8 series will receive a public beta build in December.
The new ColorOS 12 also gives a clear idea of what to expect from the Android 12 update for OnePlus phones. OnePlus switched to ColorOS as the default OS for its devices in China. So, it makes sense to expect the ColorOS 12 to come to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro phones.
Now, let’s just see what the new ColorOS 12 brings along.
Visually, the ColorOS 12 looks changed as it has gained a ton of new elements but the overall approach is to offer cleaner UI. The UI has been overhauled based on the new Infinite Design concept that spans across just everything, from redesigned icons, new animations, to emoji avatars, and more. The new avatar emoji feature is called “Omoji,” which builds high-precision 3D models using an advanced Face Capture algorithm.
UI elements have been spaced out for ease of use and a better glance. Apart from the new visual changes, the ColorOS 12 also gets some new features. It brings a Smart Sidebar 2.0, featuring six new tools. These tools help in different ways, one of them is they help users quickly play songs from the web in the Music Player app. Also, one can compare prices on e-commerce sites, and so on.
Furthermore, there is now a Cross-Screen Interconnection feature to simplify connectivity between phones and PCs. With the help of this feature, users can control their phones with their PC and share files between the two. Also, the FlexDrop feature has been improved to encourage multitasking.
There are now all-new Car Screen Projection features, including support for multiple third-party apps, like Kuwo, Baidu Maps, AutoNavi, etc.
Oppo has worked on making smoother animations to ensure users have a great experience while using ColorOS 12 on their devices. Also, to address lags ad stutters across the UI, Oppo has included an anti-stutter in ColorOS 12.
Needless to say, the ColorOS 12 packs features introduced in Android 12 as well, including improved privacy and security features. One of the notable features includes notifying users about apps using the phone’s microphone, camera, or location. The ColorOS 12 includes an additional secure sharing feature to help users remove metadata from images before sharing.
