Amazon has officially announced next-gen Kindle Paperwhite 5 devices. There are actually three variants including the standard Kindle Paperwhite 5, Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition, and Paperwhite Kids. This is a huge upgrade over the previous generation that was introduced about a couple of years ago.
The Kindle Paperwhite 5 sports a 6.8-inch display which is the biggest ever on a Paperwhite. It is a glare-free display with 300ppi pixel density for sharper texts. The bezels have a 10.2mm thickness which should make them easier to grasp. It can be used for a pleasurable reading experience even in broad daylight.
It comes with a USB Type-C port and 8GB of onboard storage. Amazon has priced it at $140 for the ad-supported variant and at $160 for the ad-free variant. The Kindle Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition is exactly the same but offers 32GB of storage space and supports wireless charging. If interested, it will cost you $190 with no ad-supported option. Both of these are already up for pre-orders and for a limited time, Amazon is offering free four-month Kindle Unlimited membership to buyers.
There is also a Kindle Paperwhite Kids which as you would expect is meant for kids. It has the same specs and features as the standard version but with some extra benefits. Amazon is bundling it with a one-year membership to Amazon Kids+, a kid-friendly case, a "worry-free" guarantee of two years. The pricing has been set at $159.99 with pre-orders currently live.
