Twitter has announced that its tipping feature will now simply be called Tips. The feature has been under testing for the past few months and was referred to as "tip jar". It is aimed at allowing users to support their favorite Twitter users by sending them tips. The team has now expanded Tips to everyone around the world and even added more payment platforms including cryptocurrencies.
The app has now added support for GoFundMe and PicPay platforms to help users tip. These two join existing options like Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Venmo, and Wealthsimple Cash. It should be noted that it is up to the user whether they want to enable Tips. If they have done so, you will see a currency icon next to the Follow button. Tapping on the button will show you a list of payment options that you can choose from.
In addition to traditional monetary options, Twitter Tips now supports Bitcoin. The team has partnered with the Strike platform to facilitate these transactions. A user will need to have a Strike account to be able to receive payments in Bitcoin. As for those who want to tip using Bitcoin, they can do so using any cryptocurrency wallet.
Twitter says these features are currently limited to iOS users. It has plans to make them available for Android devices but has not shared any timeline for the same yet.
