Apple releases iOS 15.0.2, iPadOS 15.0.2, watchOS 8.0.1 with bug fixes

12 October 2021 0

Apple has officially released iOS 15.0.2 and iPadOS 15.0.2 for eligible iPhone and iPad models respectively. This is the second incremental upgrade for iOS 15 that was announced in June. If you are an Apple Watch user, watchOS 8.0.1 has also been rolled out which is the first incremental update since the watchOS 8 release.

As one would expect, iOS 15.0.2 is an update primarily aimed at bug fixes and security patches. The biggest security fix is related to a memory corruption issue that would have allowed an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is unsure whether the vulnerability has been exploited and in what capacity but is recommending everyone to install the update as soon as possible.

Here are other bugs fixed by the update:

  • Photos saved to your library from Messages could be deleted after removing the associated thread or message

  • iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe may not connect to Find My

  • AirTag might not appear in the Find My Items tab

  • CarPlay may fail to open audio apps or disconnect during playback

  • Device restore or update may fail when using Finder or iTunes for iPhone 13 models

As for iPadOS 15.0.2, the list of fixes is below:

  • Photos saved to your library from Messages could be deleted after removing the associated thread or message
  • AirTag might not appear in the Find My Items tab
  • Device restore or update may fail when using Finder or iTunes for iPad mini (6th generation)

watchOS 8.0.1 is also here for Apple Watch users and is packed with bug fixes. The team has fixed an issue that was resulting in an inaccurate software update progress display for some users.
