Honor Play5 Youth with Dimensity 900 SoC, 120Hz display goes official

26 October 2021 0

Honor has launched yet another mid-range Android phone in its Play series. The new phone is Play5 Youth and it is also dubbed Play5 Vitality Edition or simply Honor Play5 Lite in China. The phone includes some prevalent specifications, including the Dimensity 900 SoC, 120Hz refresh rate, and many more.

The Honor Play5 Vitality Edition aka Youth Edition features dual cameras on the rear panel. All these cameras are fitted inside a squarish module. On the front, the camera is fitted inside a pill-shaped notch in the upper-left corner. The company went for a pill-shaped module when a simpler hole-shaped module could have done the work because there is just a single camera on the front.

The Play5 Youth Edition features a 6.67-inch screen size with full HD+ display resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The dual-camera setup on the back features a 64MP primary and a 2MP depth sensor.

Under the hood, the phone gets MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 chipset, which follows octa-core CPU architecture. The chip is based on a 6nm process and includes two latest Arm Cortex-A78 CPU cores and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at up to 2GHz. The chip is accompanied by 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The GPU is Mali-G68 MC4 and it supports GPU Turbo X graphics acceleration technology for gaming. This tech was first launched with the Honor Play smartphone and later came to Honor V40 as well. The Turbo X offers a better gaming experience by reducing power consumption and providing a smoother gaming experience.

The Honor Play5 Youth packs a 4,300mAh battery that supports 66W charging via USB-C port. As per Honor, the 66W adapter can charge the phone flat to 50% in mere 15 minutes.

The Honor Play5 Youth runs Android 11 with Magic UI 4.2 on top of it. But, the phone doesn’t support Google Play Services. The phone includes a 3.5m headphone jack and features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The price of the Honor Play5 Youth is CNY 1,799 ($280/€240) for the 8GB/128GB model and 8GB/256GB variant is priced at CNY1,999 ($315/€270). It comes in Blue and Black color options. The Honor Play5 Youth is already up for pre-orders in China through Honor’s official Chinese website. The sales will commence from November 1.
