Sony has announced a new VR headset named Xperia View. It is specifically meant to be paired with Xperia 1 II and Xperia 1 III flagships that were released in 2020 and 2021 respectively. This also means that it is not a stand-alone VR headset and will need to be paired with any of the aforementioned phones to work.
The Xperia View VR headset is claimed to be capable of supporting 8K HDR videos. It has a 120-degree field of view to help users get a completely immersive experience. It will also help the device to be compatible with the 21:9 aspect ratio, something that is common among Xperia smartphones. The display panel is said to be a 4K HDR-compatible organic EL display.
It further supports 10-bit input and BT.2020 color gamut. Sony seems to have focused on ensuring that users get a completely immersive experience regardless of what they are watching in VR. It can also work with 360-degree images so that a user can watch the specific item from all possible angles. And yes, the headset can be worn even when you have spectacles on.
However, Sony has currently announced the Xperia View VR headset only for the Japanese market. It is priced at around JPY 30,000 in the country with a single Grey color option. If you are interested in getting one, it is already available for purchase via offline and online stores.
