WhatsApp debuted the "delete for everyone" feature about four years ago and with a time limit of 7 minutes. It was expanded to 4096 seconds i.e. 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 16 seconds soon after. It has been the limit ever since but going forward, it seems like the team is finally ready to make a change.
As per WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is probably working on lifting the "delete for everyone" time limit altogether. The folks discovered that they were able to get the delete message option for texts that were sent as earlier as three months ago. This is significantly longer than the current time limit which is just a little over an hour.
The change suggests that WhatsApp may be considering removing the time limit. It is also possible that it simply wants to offer a relatively bigger time limit so that users can have more freedom. None of these things are officially confirmed and in fact, WhatsApp is yet to begin public beta testing of the feature. It is usually the step before releasing a new feature or change for the masses.
This is the reason it is safe to assume there is plenty of time before the feature becomes available for everyone. Nevertheless, we will keep you posted on all the developments as and when they will take place.
