Samsung Galaxy S22 series to have Snapdragon 898 globally: Report

09 November 2021 0

Samsung is reportedly considering using only the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 processor for the upcoming Galaxy S22 series around the globe. This significant move is reported by LetsGoDigital, a Dutch publication, citing a YouTube video from Super Roader who is apparently a former Samsung employee.

The report claims that no matter from what region you purchase a Galaxy S22 series phone, you will get it with the Snapdragon 898 chipset. This is said to be applicable for all three models: Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The publication even though it has not been able to verify the claim independently, recent developments in the chipset manufacturing industry have led them to believe that the move is actually possible.

We already know that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the chipset and component maker industry in a significant manner. The global semiconductor shortage has been so adverse that even Apple had to cut off iPad production to boost the iPhone supply chain. Similarly, Samsung is rumored to be finding it hard to produce enough Exynos 2200 chips. This is the reason South Korean tech giant is considering ditching the processor completely for the Galaxy S22 series and opting for Qualcomm's offering everywhere. It is not a surprise as the same issues have caused the Galaxy S21 FE launch to get delayed so far.

Even though Exynos processors have not performed anywhere close to the Snapdragon chipsets in the past, the Exynos 2200 was turning out to be a beast at least on paper. Samsung collaborated with AMD to develop the processor and it would have been the first in the world to deliver Ray-tracing support on smartphones. If the report is correct, it will certainly bring joy to Samsung fans who have been asking for a Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy S-series in their markets for so long.

If we talk about the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it recently appeared in a massive leak revealing its real-world photos. The flagship has a design identical to a Galaxy Note device and even has an in-built S Pen slot. The flagship is now rumored to get official on February 8th followed by official sales from February 18th.
