Google's latest Android version i.e. Android 12 is packed with a number of new features and one of them is the Material You dynamic themes. It basically utilizes colors from your chosen wallpaper to create a unique theme experience. This way, you can have a different theme on the device every time you change the wallpaper.
The feature is obviously available on Pixel devices but when it comes to other Android OEMs, we know they like to make certain tweaks to the new Android version before releasing it. This is the reason it was hard to say what phones will get the dynamic feature but thanks to Mishaal Rahman's tweet, we now have a fair idea.
Rahman spotted a new code commit in Google’s Material Components library. It refers to a list of Android device makers that will support dynamic color theming system. It currently includes the following OEMs: OPPO, Realme, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Motorola, Itel, Tecno Mobile, Infinix, HMD Global, Sharp, Sony, TCL, Lenovo, Google, and Roboelectric. If you are looking for Nokia, it will also support the feature through its license holder HMD Global.
This is interesting. The source code for Monet (Android 12's wallpaper-based theme system) will be released with Android 12L, but based on this code change for the Material Components library, it looks like a bunch of OEMs are implementing dynamic color support themselves. https://t.co/Oufh9zxDnZ pic.twitter.com/9obGYbbMDC— Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) November 11, 2021
This is certainly good news as Android 12 users will get to try out the new customization feature, something that is getting high praises from whoever tried it so far. However, it will be interesting to see if these OEMs will implement it exactly the same as Pixel devices or make some changes in accordance with their respective themes.
