Google has released a surprise mid-November software update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This is a surprise release because the company usually rolls out updates during the start of the month. It is the reason this is essentially the second software update of the month for device owners.
The build number of the software for both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is SD1A.210817.037. If you are someone who has a Verizon-bound model, then the build number is SD1A.210817.037.A1. Google did not make any formal announcement for the update and did not even issue a changelog. It is the carrier Verizon that has posted a changelog for the new update.
Its changelog says, "The current software update improves the performance of your device's fingerprint sensor." The fingerprint issue is something that is affecting a number of Pixel 6 users. We reported about it last week and at that time, Google described it as an intentional behavior to improve the overall security. It seems like the team finally acknowledged that it is actually an issue and released the update as soon as it found the fix.
It is an OTA update which means Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users should receive an update notification anytime soon. If you do not want to wait and would like to check manually, you can do so by visiting Settings -> System -> Advanced -> System update. It is advised that you have at least 50% battery on your device before you begin the installation process.
