Pixel 6a renders leak show Pixel 6-like design, no headphone jack

22 November 2021 0

Many OEMs in the Android world follow a release cycle where they announce a pure Android flagship and follow it up with an affordable version. Google does so by first launching new Pixel devices and then reveals a "Pixel a" series device. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the latest flagships from the big G and now, we are hearing out first rumors of the affordable version called Pixel 6a.

The leak is coming from online publication 91Mobiles in collaboration with well-known tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks). It features high-quality Pixel 6a renders and a few important details about what to expect. The phone looks completely different from the last released device in the lineup i.e. Pixel 5a. This is not surprising as the alleged Pixel 6a design is simply inspired by the Pixel 6 series.

The Pixel 6a can be seen sporting a punch-hole flat OLED display with minimal bezels on all four sides. The display size is said to be 6.2-inch which is not only smaller than the Pixel 6 series phones but also the Pixel 5a. The back panel has the Pixel 6 series' signature camera module that resembles a visor. The phone will have dual rear cameras, 50-megapixel and 12-megapixel, with an LED flash same as the standard Pixel 6.

The report claims that Google has opted for a dual-tone finish and glass back. There are power and volume rocker buttons on the right side of the phone. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C port at the bottom along with speaker and microphone grilles. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack available.

The Pixel 6a specifications are unknown for the most part. The affordable flagship variants are usually seen running a mid-range chipset but Google debuted its custom Tensor chipset for the Pixel 6 lineup. We will have to see if Google will go for an underclocked Tensor chipset or a dedicated mid-range offering from other chipmakers like Qualcomm. The phone will surely boot Android 12 out of the box and will also have software support for at least three years.
