Chinese OEMs are known for offering two Android custom skins, one for their home market i.e. Chinese users, and another for the rest of the world. Vivo is no different as it ships phones in China with OriginOS and around the world with Funtouch OS. It is now preparing to unveil the next iteration of the skin meant for Chinese buyers.
Vivo has officially announced a new event for December 9th in China. It is the event where it will unveil OriginOS Ocean, the new version of one of the widely used Android custom skins. It has posted a teaser video which, as one would expect, does not reveal a lot about what to expect. However, it is safe to assume that the newer version should deliver smoother and faster performance, new visuals, and features to improve the overall productivity.
The good thing is that OriginOS Ocean's internal beta testing recruitment is already underway. It will allow select Chinese users to be one of the firsts to try out the new software experience. There are speculations that at least 12 different models will be part of the first batch eligible to receive the internal beta. These mostly include flagships devices belonging to Vivo X and S series like Vivo X70, Vivo X70 Pro, Vivo X70 Pro+, Vivo S10, and Vivo S10 Pro. A complete list with a specific release schedule will surely be released during the launch event.
There are currently no words on Vivo's upgrade plans for the global user base. It is important to note that Chinese and global versions of a particular OEM's Android skins are not that different. The major difference is that the global build comes packed with Google apps and services including the Google Play Store. We will keep you posted as more details will emerge.
