Oppo's custom-made imaging chip MariSilicon X to debut with Find X4

14 December 2021 0

Even though the main attraction of the Oppo INNO Day 2021 is the Oppo Air Glass, it also took wraps off the first in-house imaging chipset named MariSilicon X. It is a chip that comprises a neural processing unit (NPU), image signal processor (ISP), and a memory architecture. Oppo is hoping to take the well-respected camera performance of its premium smartphones to the next level with the newest announcement.

The Oppo MariSilicon X is built using the 6nm manufacturing process. It is claimed to deliver significantly improved AI performance (about 20X better) for camera quality when compared to the Find X3 Pro. The company says its custom imaging chip is not just about increased performance but is also about being more power-efficient at the same time.

It is capable of offering a 20-bit, 120b dynamic range for still photos. If you love shooting 4K videos on your smartphone, it will be able to support real-time RAW processing for 4K footages. Other noticeable benefits will be improved details, better dynamic range, noise reduction, and better color reproduction.

Oppo says MariSilicon X will be able to take full advantage of its RGBW camera sensor. It is further claimed to be the first image chip capable of offering 4K HDR AI night-time videos on Android. The chip will make its commercial debut with the next-gen Oppo Find series flagship i.e. Find X4 next year.
