Apple begins iPhone 13 trial production in India, mass production from Feb 2022

21 December 2021 0

Apple has reportedly started trial production of the iPhone 13 in India. It is hoping to begin mass production from next year, specifically starting February 2022. The report adds that the company does not have any plans for assembling the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in the country.

The trial production is said to be underway at Foxconn's manufacturing plant in Chennai. Once the trial is successful, Apple is hoping to produce iPhone 13 in India to overcome global supply issues. This is because as per sources behind the report, the company usually reserves 20-30% of assembled in India iPhone units for global exports.

We have seen Apple producing iPhone models locally in India for the last couple of years or so. It started off with older-generation models but very recently, it started assembling the latest generation models as well. The only difference is that it does not produce them in India right from the beginning. It waits for a few months post-launch and then begins the process.

The iPhone 13 is said to be the best-selling iPhone 13 series model in India. This seems to be the reason Apple has decided to assemble only the iPhone 13 in the country. In terms of what other models are getting assembled in India, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 production is happening at Foxconn's plants and iPhone SE (2020) production is handled by Wistron's plant in Bengaluru.
