There are a good number of foldable smartphones to choose from but the same is not true for laptops. We did see Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold during CES 2020 but it did not make any significant change. Two years later, Asus has showcased its own take on foldable laptops with the announcement of the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED.
Asus is touting its offering as the world's first 17-inch foldable OLED laptop. The device actually offers a massive 17.3-inch OLED display with 2560 x 1920 pixels resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. The panel supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, Dolby Vision, up to 500 nits of brightness, and 0.2ms response time. When you will fold, it will turn into a 12.5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio and the rest of the area can be used with an on-screen keyboard.
The best part of having a foldable laptop is that you can use it in different forms. The ZenBook 17 Fold OLED has six modes called on-screen keyboard, laptop, PC, tablet, book, and extend. The laptop mode comes into action when you use it with the bundled Asus ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard with it placed over the lower half of the display. The PC mode can be triggered by placing the Bluetooth keyboard on a table and using the whole 17-inch display for doing work. The device has an integrated kickstand that makes it easier to position.
In terms of tech specs, the foldable laptop is powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Xe GPU. There is up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD storage. It has dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.2, and WiFi 6E. It also features a 5-megapixel front camera with Windows Hello support. It packs a 75WHrs battery and comes with a 65W USB Type-C power adapter. It will be available with Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro options.
Asus says ZenBook 17 Fold OLED will go on sale starting sometime during mid-2022. There are no pricing details yet and will be revealed at the time of availability.
