Honor has officially announced its first-ever foldable smartphone Honor Magic V in China. It is also the first foldable in the market to come with the Snap 8 Gen 1 processor. It has a design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 which debuted last year. It means the foldable has a bigger display on the inside and a relatively smaller display on the outside.
The Honor Magic V has a 7.9-inch foldable OLED display with 2272 x 1984 pixels resolution with 90Hz refresh rate and 10.3:9 aspect ratio. It is the panel that will be visible when the phone is unfolded. On the outside, it has a 6.45-inch OLED display with 2560 x 1080 pixels resolution with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 21.3:9 aspect ratio. It looks like a traditional phone display and is not tall like the one on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, something many users do not like.
The choice of processor is Qualcomm Snap 8 Gen 1 with Adreno 730 GPU that should deliver a flagship-level performance. There is 12GB of RAM available in combination with 256GB and 512GB onboard storage. The phone has a triple camera setup featuring a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor with f/1.9 aperture, a 50-megapixel ultra spectrum camera with f/2.0 aperture, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture. On the front, it has a 42-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture.
The whole package is powered by a 4,750mAh battery with 66W SuperCharge fast charging. The foldable will boot Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12 out of the box. The color options include Titanium Silver, Black, and Burnt Orange. It will go on sale in China starting January 18th.
