After many started to believe that Google has canceled its foldable phone even before announcing it, new leaks have started to surface suggesting that the device is very much under development. We recently talked about a Geekbench listing and now, the latest Android 12L beta has offered some more hints about the Pixel Fold's existence.
The folks over at 9to5Google dug deep into the Android 12L beta code and discovered a couple of animations with references to the codename "Pipit". It is the same codename that is said to be the internal name for Google's foldable in various leaks. As for animations, these are for the SIM insertion step of the new phone setup process.
The first one shows a foldable device in the folded state. One can see the volume rocker on the right side and the hinge on the left side. It further reveals that the SIM card slot is on the bottom and the tray can be ejected using a SIM tray ejector.
The second animation shows the phone in an unfolded state. It means you are looking at the inner display which is wider but not tall like we saw on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. It also shows that the SIM card slot is present on the same half as the external display. The overall glimpse suggests that the phone will have a design similar to the Oppo Find N.
It is important to note that these animations only offer hints and do not confirm anything. There is a good chance that Google may change plans with time. This is the reason it is advised that you take these rumors with a pinch of salt.
