YouTube starts testing Smart Downloads on Android

14 January 2022 0

YouTube has begun beta testing a new feature called Smart Downloads on Android. It is a feature already available on YouTube Music where it automatically downloads music for users when they are connected to WiFi. It will work similarly on the main YouTube app but will focus on videos.

As per reports, YouTube Smart Downloads picks 20 videos that it believes will pique your interest and downloads them via WiFi connectivity. These videos will be chosen based on your watch history, same as how it shows you recommendations when you open the app or website.

It is important to note that Smart Downloads is currently available as one of YouTube's experimental features. It will be available until February 14th. Furthermore, it is available only for YouTube Premium users and that too for select users. The app will show a Smart downloads banner to those who can be part of the beta testing.

It can be checked by visiting Library > Downloads on the YouTube app. If you become the tester, all auto-downloaded videos will appear alongside the ones that you have downloaded manually. YouTube says if you are running out of storage space, the app will show further instructions to be followed to keep the feature working.
