OnePlus has officially ended software support for the OnePlus 6 and 6T series. The announcement was made through the official OnePlus Community forums as a comment by a staff member. It means that you use any of the aforementioned smartphones, you will not be receiving any new software updates from the company.
The OnePlus 6 was launched in May 2018 and about five months later, we saw the release of the OnePlus 6T. Both these smartphones are now three years old which is a usually followed software support cycle for premium phones. The two phones were released with Android 8.0 Oreo and Android 9 Pie respectively. and have received Android 11 upgrades as well.
The official comment reads,
"After 3 major updates and more than 3 years of updates, around 60 Closed Beta builds and over 30 Open Beta builds it's now time to close a chapter and announce the end of OnePlus 6 and 6T official software support."
As mentioned in the beginning, it means OnePlus will not release software updates for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T devices anymore. The only way to receive new features and possibly even regular security patches is to go for a well-supported custom Android ROM.
