Sony has announced a new PlayStation 5 beta update that adds a number of new features and changes. One of the biggest additions is voice commands to control various aspects of the UI. The new beta will further bring new party chat options, game base enhancements, UI features, and accessibility features.
Starting with PlayStation 5 voice commands, it will be a limited release in the "preview" stage in the United States and the United Kingdom. It will help players find and open video games, apps, and settings along with control music playback through voice. It is limited to English for now and can be enabled from system settings. The hotword for voice commands is "Hey PlayStation!" and then you can say a relevant command to get things done.
Party Chat options now include Open and Closed Parties on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. A user will get to choose the party type while setting it up. The only difference between the two is one can join a closed party only if they have an invite. However, all players should be using the beta version if they want to join an open party. PS4 players can now adjust the chat volume level of each participant similar to the PS5.
The team has also made improvements to Game Base and has divided it into three sections: Friends, Parties, and Messages. This should make it easier to navigate and find what you are looking for. In terms of overall PS5 UI, it is now possible to search for games based on genre. You can also pin up to five games and apps on each home screen and add a total of 14 games and apps to the home screen.
The latest PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 beta will start rolling out tomorrow. If you are a beta tester, you should get access to all these new features right away depending on what region you are from.
