Samsung promises Android upgrades for four years for following devices

10 February 2022 0

Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2022 was primarily about the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 series launches. These devices are packed with significant hardware upgrades as one would expect but that is not the only change announced. Samsung has also revealed its plans to provide major Android OS upgrades for four years.

The official announcement mentions a list of eligible devices that will receive four generations of One UI and Android upgrades. It means if a device launches with Android 12, it should get updated until Android 16. Samsung had previously announced software support plans for three years but it has now made it better by offering an additional year.

The good thing is that the extended software support is not restricted to smartphones and tablets. Samsung says all smartwatches running One UI Watch or Wear OS powered by Samsung will receive four years of OS upgrades. This will allow Galaxy wearable users to keep using them for a long time.

Here is the list of eligible smartphones:

  • Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S21 FE, and future Galaxy S devices
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and future Galaxy Z series devices
  • Future select Galaxy A series devices
  • Galaxy Tab S8 series and future Galaxy Tab S series tablets

In terms of smartwatches, the current-gen Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are eligible for the new software support. It will also be available for future Galaxy Watch models.
