Google Play Store is receiving a new feature that will make tracking app installation progress a lot more convenient. It will now show the installation progress directly on the home screen. This is similar to what Apple has been offering on iPhones and iPads for years. The feature is finally coming to Android after a lengthy beta testing that began in May 2021.

The process of searching for and installing an app will remain unchanged. The Play Store will simply add a Black and White version of the app icon on the home screen right after you tap the "Install" button. This icon will be enclosed inside a ring that will get filled as the installation will progress. The app icon will be labeled as "Downloading" when the download is going on.

The label will change to "Installing" once the download is complete and installation is taking place. On successful installation, you will see the app icon in its original colors and the label will change to the app's name. If you happen to put multiple apps on download, it will continue to download one app at a time and all others will appear as "Pending" on the home screen.

The new app installation progress feature will be beneficial while downloading apps and games bigger in size, especially on a slow or unreliable internet connection. It will allow users to check the current progress directly from home without having to open the Play Store or swiping down the notification panel. Another benefit is that users can also choose to rearrange app icons on the home screen while the app is downloading.
