Sony Xperia 5 IV tipped to launch with Snap 8 Gen 1 chip | UPD: renders leak

01 March 2022 0

UPDATE (March 1st, 2022):

It is now time for Sony Xperia 5 IV render leaks that give an idea of the phone's design. The leak is coming from tipster @OnLeaks in collaboration with publication Giznext. Sony has not changed anything significant from the previous generation's design. The phone continues with the flat-edge design but is said to have 9.5mm thickness this time around. The thickness is said to include the camera bump.

The phone does not have a notch or punch-hole as the front camera is on the top bezel. There is a triple rear camera module on the back panel. It is also shown with Sony and Xperia branding on the backside. It is further tipped to have a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side.

Sony used to release smartphones quite regularly but in past few years, it has been launching them not so frequently. This is the reason we do not get to hear about it as often as many other OEMs. It unveiled Xperia 5 III, a high-end premium flagship, last year and is now reportedly working on a direct successor.

As per Notebookcheck, the alleged phone under development is called Xperia 5 IV. There are aspects of the phone that are similar to the predecessor but there are a few improvements as well. The phone is reported to sport a 6.1-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The panel size is the same as last year's model but details about resolution and other display features are unknown.

The choice of processor is said to be Snap 8 Gen 1. It is the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm and powers almost all Android flagships from major OEMs. The exact battery capacity is unknown but is claimed to be slightly bigger than the 4,500mAh available on the model from last year.

The report reveals that there will not be a change in the rear camera setup this year. It means there will be a 12-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 12-megapixel sensor with optical zoom. There are no words on the possible release timeline for Xperia 5 IV but we will keep you posted.
