Twitter started as a platform where users could send text-based tweets. It is still largely the same but in the past year, the team is consistently experimenting with different forms of content sharing. It launched Spaces early last year to deliver audio-only communication experiences similar to Clubhouse. And now, a new report suggests that it is considering expanding in the audio space with the addition of podcasts.
Jane Manchun Wong, a well-known app researcher, has tweeted a screenshot showing a new Twitter Podcasts tab. The tab has a microphone icon and a text label "Podcasts". It does not offer any explanation about how the feature might work. There are speculations that it might be connected with Spaces in some way. We do know that Twitter allowed everyone to record their Spaces sessions and share them with others for replay.

The experience of replaying and listening to someone's recorded Spaces session is already similar to listening to podcasts. It is quite possible that dedicated podcasts support may be on the same line. It is difficult to say if it will support non-Spaces podcasts like many other platforms such as Apple and Spotify.
Audio is not the only place where Twitter is exploring new features. It was spotted working on another new feature called Articles. Its exact functionality is unknown but seems like it will allow users to write and share long-form text posts.
