It has been over a year since LG exited the smartphone business but assured software support for existing devices. It shared a list of eligible smartphones for Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13 upgrades. The LG Velvet is the first phone to receive the latest Android 12 which started a couple of weeks ago. It has now shared a new list featuring phones that will get updated in the second quarter i.e. the current quarter.
The list includes LG Q92 5G, LG V50 ThinQ, and LG V50S ThinQ. It should be noted that the Android 12 rollout plan is for the South Korean market. It has not offered details about the global update schedule but we are assuming it should be more or less similar to the plans for the home market. The LG Velvet, LG Wing, and LG Q52 will also receive updates this quarter but these will be related to security patches.
If you are wondering why is LG V60 not part of the list, there is a good reason behind it. The premium smartphone was never released for South Korean users. It means we will have to wait for global release plans to see if the device will make the cut in that list of supported devices.
Lastly, the LG Velvet (4G LTE and 5G models) and LG Wing are the only two models that will receive an Android 13 upgrade. It will be the next major Android version that will become official later this year. Although, the exact release from LG may happen as late as the early next year i.e. 2023.
