Apple is reported to be working on a new HomePod model that will be more than a traditional smart speaker. The report is coming from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in his weekly newsletter Power On's latest edition. He claims that the new HomePod model will arrive with a FaceTime camera and Apple TV support.
This new HomePod model will essentially make it a single device with three different capabilities. It will continue to be a smart home speaker similar to the original HomePod and HomePod Mini but will gain two additional functionalities. FaceTime camera will make it useful for attending video calls directly from the kitchen or your drawing-room.
The Apple TV support will add streaming and gaming capabilities to the device. This will make it the complete entertainment hub for the family. It is expected to boot the tvOS operating system out of the box. It is important to note that it will not have a display for you to stream content on the device itself.
It will simply be an alternative to the Apple TV box that connects to your TV. It will essentially help users save money by eliminating the need for spending money on two different devices. It is currently unknown when we can expect the new HomePod to get official in the market. It is also important to note that all these expected features are rumors and things can always change by the time it goes into the mass production.
