Valve has announced a new Steam Deck update that brings a number of noteworthy changes. These are related to both hardware and software aspects. There is a new lock screen, updated achievements page, localized keyboard support, multiple window switching, and uncapped frame rate support.
Steam Deck is finally letting users set up a lock screen and PIN protection. It is meant to ensure that no unauthorized person can access your games and device's settings. The lock screen can be set up to show up on wake, boot, login, and/or when switching to Desktop mode. The PIN needs to be 6-digit long and it can be entered using the controller.
The team has revamped the Achievements page for faster loading and easier navigation. It is now easier to switch between your stats and global stats whenever you want. There is a new drop-down menu that can be used for comparing your stats with your friends on the device.
If there is a game with multiple windows, it will now be supported by Steam Deck. The switching can be done by pressing the Steam button while inside the supported game. The team has further added support for localized keyboards in 21 languages and layouts. Users can choose to enable multiple keyboards at the same time and switch among them using the globe button.
The Steam Deck now has an uncapped frame rate option available within the Performance tab. It is for gamers who do not want frame rates to be capped. However, it goes without saying that battery drain will be faster with uncapped frame rates. It will now alert users whenever a plugged charger is slower than the minimum bar. The LED now dims a few seconds after plugging in/ unplugging.
