Apple's iPhone self-repair rental toolkits are massive and expensive

28 April 2022 0

Apple's Self Service Repair program is finally available in the United States. The program was announced in November 2021 and can now be availed by American users. It will be expanded to other regions later this year starting with Europe. The Cupertino-based tech giant has also launched rental repair kits for users interested in self-repair.

The repair kits include each and every tool that you may need while repairing your iPhone. While these tools can be purchased individually, they cost a lot and thus do not make much sense to purchase. This is the reason Apple has also introduced a rental facility where the whole repair kit can be rented for a period of seven days.

It can be rented for $49 and Apple will ship it for absolutely free. The kit will include all tools related to the particular iPhone model you want to repair. However, you will need to ship them back by the seventh day via UPS. If any of the tools are damaged or missing, you will need to pay charges for that too.

Each iPhone model except for the iPhone SE has two repair tool kits. These are said to measure 20 inches wide and 47 inches high when stacked over one another. They are also on the heavier side as these weigh 36 pounds but thankfully, there are wheels that make them easier to carry around.

In the official press release, Apple said:

"The Apple tools available to customers on the Self Service Repair Store are the same as used by Apple’s repair network. They are custom-designed to help provide the best repairs for Apple products and are engineered to withstand the rigors of high-volume, professional repair operations where safety and reliability are the utmost priority. The high-quality tools offered through Self Service Repair include torque drivers, repair trays, display, and battery presses, and more."
