Google debuted the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones in 2019 with the promise of regular software updates and security patches for a period of three years. It has just released the latest Pixel security patch update which should mark the end of software support for the aforementioned smartphones. However, the folks over at Google have decided to push one last update to the two phones.
In a statement sent to 9to5Google, Google has revealed that both Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will receive one more update by July 2022. The wording suggests that the update may arrive anytime before that but considering the track record, it is safe to assume that it will become available in July itself. It means the users who are still hanging on to the device or have it laying around as a secondary device should not expect any new updates next month.
Here is the complete statement:
"In May 2019, at the launch of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, we announced that the devices would receive three years of software updates and three years of security updates from when our devices first became available on the Google Store. The final update for Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will roll out to users by July 2022."
The currently available latest update version for the two phones is Android 12.1/12L (SP2A.220505.002). It has begun rolling out today and is quite possible that it has not reached your particular unit yet. While your device should show the update notification as and when it becomes possible, you can also check for it by visiting the system settings.
