ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, Axon 40 Pro debuts in China

ZTE has launched its 2022 Android flagship series with the debut of Axon 40 Ultra and Axon 40 Pro. Both these phones have been unveiled in China and will succeed the Axon 30 series. These are packed with high-end specifications and premium features that make them a worthy choice for Android users.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch Full HD+ (2408 x 1116 pixels) AMOLED curved display with 120Hz refresh rate, 360Hz touch sampling rate, and 440ppi pixel density. The choice of processor is Qualcomm's Snap 8 Gen 1 coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB UFS 3.1 internal storage.

There is a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor with f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. The other cameras include a 64-megapixel wide-angle sensor and a 64-megapixel periscopic telephoto sensor. The phone has an under-display 16-megapixel front camera with a 1.12µm pixel size.

The whole package is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging. It will ship with MyOS 12.0 based on Android 12 as software experience. Other features include an under-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and DTS:X Ultra. ZTE has currently listed only 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB configuration variants for pre-orders. These are priced at CNY 4,999 (about $746) and CNY 5,299 (about $792) respectively. Other variants are expected to become available for booking a week later.

ZTE Axon 40 Pro

The Axon 40 Pro sports a relatively smaller 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1800 pixels) AMOLED curved display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor which is also a flagship chipset. There are multiple configurations featuring up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage.

The triple rear cameras include a 100-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.89 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a macro sensor. The 16-megapixel front camera is housed inside a punch-hole. There is a 5,000mAh battery to keep the lights on but is supported by 66W fast charging. The phone will boot MyOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box. We are yet to hear Axon 40 Pro pricing and availability details.
