Sony has debuted its latest Android flagship Xperia 1 IV with a focus on camera performance. The phone is packed with high-end specifications and features that make it a premium smartphone. It is claimed to deliver cutting-edge imaging technology, advanced gaming capabilities, and an immersive entertainment experience with a brighter HDR display and powerful audio features.
The Xperia 1 IV has three 12-megapixel Exmor RS cameras including a 16mm ultra-wide sensor, 24mm wide sensor, and a new unique true optical telephoto zoom 85-125mm sensor. This third sensor is what makes its camera capabilities unique as compared to other camera-centric smartphones. This allows it to deliver 3.5X to 5X optical zoom for situations like wildlife and sports photography.
It is further capable of shooting 4K videos at 120fps and up to 5x slow-motion video recording. There is support for Real-time Eye AF and Real-time tracking of the subject. You also get ZEISS T* coating for accurate rendering and contrast by reducing reflections for all rear cameras. The front camera on the phone is also a 12-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with support for 4K HDR selfie shooting.
In other departments, the Xperia 1 IV sports a 6.5-inch 4K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The phone is powered by Qualcomm's Snap 8 Gen 1 processor along with Adreno 730 GPU and Snapdragon Elite Gaming for improved gaming performance. The phone is available in a single 12GB RAM option but you can choose between 256GB and 512GB onboard storage options.
There is a 5,000mAh battery to keep the lights on with fast charging support. The exact speed has not been disclosed but is claimed to get a 50% charge within 30 minutes. The phone will boot Android 12 out of the box. Other noteworthy features include IP65/IP68 rating, 5G support, 3.5mm headphone jack, fingerprint scanner, a dedicated camera button, and dual front-facing speakers.
Sony has priced the Xperia 1 IV at $1,600 for the base model in the United States. It will go on sale starting September 1st via offline and online stores around the country. It will be sold in Black and Purple colors but the latter is exclusive to Sony's online store.
