WhatsApp has grown a lot in the past few years and all this growth comes at a price which is to bid farewell to older generation devices. This is the reason it keeps updating minimum software requirements from time to time. As per the latest WABetaInfo report and changes made to the official support page, WhatsApp is set to end support for iPhone models running iOS 10 or iOS 11.
It is reported that the change will come into effect on October 24th, 2022. It means once the deadline has arrived, iOS 12 will become the minimum OS version required to keep using WhatsApp on an iPhone. The report has shared a screenshot showing a pop-up where WhatsApp is alerting a user to upgrade to a newer iOS version to keep using the application.
The pop-up clearly mentions the date WhatsApp will stop working for that particular iOS version. The date is October 24th which means affected users still have about five months to jump to a newer version. It can be done by visiting settings and installing pending software updates to switch to iOS 12 or higher. If you have a device that is incompatible with iOS 12, your only option will be to purchase a new iPhone that can run at least iOS 12.
