While many users are waiting for Twitter to add the edit tweet option, we have WhatsApp working on edit message functionality. The report from WABetaInfo has revealed that the biggest instant messaging app is developing a message editing feature. It has shared a couple of screenshots showing the feature in action.
The report reveals that WhatsApp originally started testing the edit message feature in 2017. It stopped the testing for some reason and never released it with the stable build. Five years later, the messaging application finally seems to be ready for releasing the feature to everyone around the globe.
The screenshot shows a user will need to tap and hold on to the message he wants to edit. The pop-up shows three options: Info, Copy, and Edit. It is the last option that will allow users to edit the message. As of now, there is no way to check the edit history of messages but we may get an option by the time of the stable release.
It is also unknown whether there will be a time limit to the edit feature. The main purpose of the feature is to give users an opportunity to fix their typos. These will be the newest feature that will join some of the recently added new features. These include support for message reactions, bigger file size limit, and bigger groups.
