Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 3 continue to be best-selling foldables

03 June 2022 0

The foldables segment is still in the infancy stage when compared to traditional smartphones but with each quarter, it is growing at a significant rate. As per the latest market report from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the shipment of foldables grew by a whopping 571% in Q1 2021 which is in comparison to the first quarter of the last year.

A total of 2.22 million foldable devices were shipped around the globe in the last quarter. This made it the third best quarter for foldables since data became available. However if you will compare with Q4 2022 numbers, there has been a decline of 47% as we saw 4.2 million units getting shipped during that time frame.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 continue to be the best-selling foldable devices around the world. The flip-style foldable registered an insane 51% market share in the quarter. The Huawei P50 Pocket grabbed third place in the ranking and nearly overtook the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The top three models accounted for about 91% market share and no other foldable managed to cross even the 2.5% mark.

Ross Young, CEO and co-founder of DSCC, has predicted a 107% growth for foldables this year. He is expecting the shipment numbers to reach 16 million units and if we talk about foldable display shipments, the numbers are said to cross 20 million. Samsung will continue to be the market leader by a huge margin which is not surprising at all. However, he says it will still be interesting to see how next-gen foldables Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 from the company will perform.
