Instagram updates Reels length to 90-seconds and adds more features

03 June 2022 0

Instagram has announced it is now possible to create and share Reels up to 90-seconds long in length. This is something we first heard about in a report in February 2022. The move is aimed at keeping Reels competitive against TikTok where the maximum time length limit is 3 minutes. Instagram has further added a few more new features for creators.

Reels were previously limited to 60-seconds in length but have now been increased to 90-seconds. The process for selecting the time limit for your Reel is the same as it has been so far. You will be able to choose the preferred time limit while creating a new Reel. Instagram says, "You'll have more time to share more about yourself, film extra behind-the-scenes clips, dig deeper into the nuances of your content, or whatever else you want to do with that extra time."

Instagram has further released Templates that will make it easier for new users to create Reels. These templates include pre-loaded audio and clip placeholders. A user only needs to add and trim their unique clips and that's it. The team has added fresh sound effects to make your Reels more engaging and fun.

It is now also possible to import one's own audio files to Reels. This should allow users to create Reels with unique background audio as compared to using the same music track that everyone else is using. Instagram says that a custom audio file should be at least five seconds long.
