WhatsApp adds Android to iPhone chat transfer support

15 June 2022 0

One of the most requested WhatsApp features is native support for chat and data transfer between Android and iOS. It added iPhone to Android data transfer last year and now months later, it has announced Android to iPhone transfer support. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta which owns WhatsApp.

The newly added Android to iPhone WhatsApp data transfer feature will be available via the Move to iOS application. It is an official app from Apple that helps Android users switch to iOS without losing personal data. It already has support for transferring messages, contacts, calendars, Google accounts, camera rolls, and accessibility settings. It will now have one more option called WhatsApp that will also show the data size.

The app will need to be installed on the Android app which can be done via the Google Play Store. After following a few on-screen steps to set up the app, you will be presented with a code on your iPhone. This code needs to be entered on the Android device with the app running to establish a connection. The next step is to select WhatsApp as part of the data transfer process and wait for the transfer to get completed.

WhatsApp will sign you out of your account on Android once the transfer is complete. All your chats and data will appear on the paired iPhone once you install WhatsApp on it and sign in with the same phone number. WhatsApp data transfer includes your account information, profile picture, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings.

It is important to note that you will need an Android device running at least Android 5.0 Lollipop and an iPhone running at least iOS 15.5 for the data transfer to work. If you happen to have existing WhatsApp chats on your iPhone, the transfer will overwrite those old chats. The feature is currently rolling out in beta stage but will become available for all users in the coming weeks.
